T-shirt styles available

Twelve base silhouettes sit in the standard Tirupur block library that listed units work from. Each one has graded patterns from XS to 5XL in both US/EU and Asian fits, so a buyer moving a programme from one market to another does not pay for a new pattern set. Every silhouette below is available in a minimum of three knit constructions.

Round-neck half sleeve

The volume workhorse. 1x1 rib collar, shoulder-to-shoulder taping, side-seamed or tubular. The default for promotional, uniform and entry-price retail programmes.

Round-neck full sleeve

Set-in long sleeve with rib cuff or plain hem. The single largest search term in the Indian market and a steady autumn/winter line for northern-hemisphere buyers.

Oversized drop-shoulder

Boxy body, dropped armhole, wide rib neck, 220–240 GSM. Half and full sleeve. The streetwear standard — see the construction notes.

Henley

Two- or three-button placket, half or full sleeve. Higher perceived value at roughly the same fabric cost; good margin filler in a mixed container.

Polo (pique & jersey)

Two-button placket, knitted collar and cuff, side vents. 220 GSM pique is the corporate standard; 180 GSM jersey polo reads more premium-casual.

Raglan

Diagonal sleeve seam, contrast sleeve option. Used for sports, college and baseball-tee programmes; a low-cost way to add a second colour without printing.

Longline / curved hem

Extended body with a scooped hem. Popular in UK and Gulf street retail. Adds roughly 8–10% to fabric consumption.

V-neck & acid-wash

V-neck on 160–180 GSM combed; acid, mineral and garment-dye washes on heavy jersey for a lived-in hand feel. Wash lots are batch-matched.

Fabric & GSM specification guide

GSM alone does not describe a t-shirt. Yarn count, knit structure and finishing route change the hand feel, the shrinkage and the price more than weight does. This is the table our merchandisers work from — quote against it and your costing will land within a few cents of the final PI.

Oversized & drop-shoulder construction

Oversized is where most first-time importers get burned, because "oversized" is not a size — it is a block. Buying a 2XL body and calling it oversized produces a garment that is wide and long, which is not the look the end consumer wants.

What we change on an oversized block

  • Chest ease — 12–16 cm over the equivalent regular fit, held constant across the size run.
  • Armhole drop — shoulder seam moved 4–7 cm down the arm; sleeve pattern re-cut, not just widened.
  • Body length — kept at regular-fit length (or +2 cm), so the garment reads boxy rather than long.
  • Neck rib — 2.2–2.5 cm wide (against 1.8 cm standard) with heavier rib to stop the neck collapsing on a wide opening.
  • Fabric weight — 220 GSM minimum. Below that, the extra width reads as a badly fitting shirt rather than a deliberate cut.
  • Hem & sleeve — 3 cm cover-stitched hems to add drape weight at the edges.

Buyer tip: ask for the drop-shoulder measurement (HPS to shoulder seam) on the size chart, not just chest and length. If a supplier cannot give it to you, they are grading a regular block up and hoping.

Full-sleeve and round-neck detailing

Full-sleeve tees carry a higher return rate than any other knit style, and almost all of it traces to two details: cuff recovery and neck stretch-back. Both are specification decisions, not luck.

DetailOptionsWhat we recommend and why
Neck rib1x1 rib, 2x2 rib, self-fabric binding1x1 combed rib with 5% spandex. Recovers after 30 wash cycles; plain self-fabric necks go wavy by cycle 10.
Neck tapingNone, back-neck tape, shoulder-to-shoulder tapeShoulder-to-shoulder herringbone tape. Adds ~USD 0.06 and removes the most common seam-failure claim.
Sleeve cuffPlain hem, rib cuff, ribbed with spandexRib cuff with spandex on full sleeve; plain cover-stitch hem on oversized full sleeve for the intended relaxed look.
Side seamTubular (seamless), side-seamedSide-seamed for anything above entry price. Tubular twists after washing and shows on the shelf.
StitchingSingle needle, twin needle, cover stitchTwin-needle hem and sleeve, single-needle armhole, cover-stitch neck.
LabellingWoven, printed satin, tagless heat transferTagless transfer for USA/DACH retail; woven loop label for Gulf and UK independents.

From tech pack to container

  1. Day 0 — RFQ. Send a tech pack, a reference garment, or just a photograph and a target price. Our sales desk replies within 24 hours with a costing sheet, not a "please share more details".
  2. Day 2–4 — Costing & counter-sample brief. You get a line-by-line FOB build-up: fabric, knitting, dyeing, cutting, sewing, trims, print, packing, and our margin. Nothing hidden in a single per-piece number.
  3. Day 5–12 — Sampling. Fit sample first, then a pre-production (PP) sample in the approved fabric and colour. Lab dips for every colour, sent physically and as measured L*a*b* values.
  4. Day 13 — PI & deposit. 30% advance against a proforma invoice; balance against a copy Bill of Lading or at sight L/C. Terms negotiable above 20-foot container volumes.
  5. Day 14–32 — Bulk production. Knitting and dyeing run first; you receive a bulk fabric approval swatch before cutting starts. Inline inspection at 20% and 60% sewn.
  6. Day 33–36 — Final inspection. AQL 2.5 major / 4.0 minor, or your nominated third party (SGS, Intertek, Bureau Veritas, QIMA). Inspection report reaches you before the goods leave the unit.
  7. Day 37–40 — Export documentation. Commercial invoice, packing list, Bill of Lading, Certificate of Origin, and — where applicable — GOTS transaction certificate or Oeko-Tex declaration, issued through Wedge Group's documentation desk.

MOQ is 500 pieces per colour per style. Across a single style you can split colours at 500 each, so a 2,000-piece order can carry four colourways. A 40-foot high-cube holds roughly 18,000–22,000 poly-bagged t-shirts depending on GSM and fold.

Private label & OEM programme

Around two-thirds of what leaves our floor carries somebody else's brand name. The OEM programme covers everything the garment needs to arrive retail-ready:

  • Branding — woven labels, printed satin labels, tagless heat transfer, embossed silicone, rubber patches, metal trims, custom drawcords and zip pullers.
  • Decoration — screen print (plastisol, water-based, discharge, puff, high-density), digital DTG, DTF transfer, sublimation, flat and 3D-puff embroidery, applique.
  • Packing — individual poly bag with barcode, hangtag and thread-seal, folded-and-boarded, hanger-packed, GOH, or retail-ready carton with your own carton artwork.
  • Marketplace prep — Amazon FNSKU, Walmart, Zalando and Noon-compliant labelling and carton marking applied at the factory so you skip the 3PL re-label charge.
  • Design support — pattern making, grading and tech-pack creation from a sketch or a competitor sample, included free above 3,000 pieces.

Own-brand alternative. If you want stock rather than a development cycle, OZIANT's own-brand blanks ship from a standing colour card in 10–12 days at 200 pieces minimum. Useful for filling a container or testing a market before committing to a private-label run.

Buying cotton t-shirts from India: market notes

United States

Largest destination for Tirupur knitwear. Buyers are typically importers and Amazon private-label brands moving 5,000–50,000 pieces per style. Plan for FNSKU labelling at source and a 28–35 day ocean transit from Chennai to the US East Coast.

Germany & EU

Certification-driven. GOTS or Oeko-Tex is close to a precondition above mid-market, and the EU's supply-chain due-diligence expectations mean buyers ask for the mill name, not just the garment factory. We disclose both.

United Kingdom

Smaller order sizes, faster reorders, high sensitivity to fit consistency between production runs. Listed units hold graded pattern files per buyer, so a repeat six months later measures the same.

UAE & Gulf

Fast-turn, mixed-category containers, and a strong preference for suppliers who can consolidate garments with other consumer lines. Wedge Group's Hong Kong and India desks handle that consolidation on one Bill of Lading.

Buying men's cotton t-shirts in India (domestic wholesale)

Indian search demand for these styles is substantial — round-neck, full-sleeve and oversized cotton tees together draw well over a million monthly searches, and full-sleeve men's tees alone sit in the highest search-volume bracket Google reports. If you are an Indian retailer, D2C brand or marketplace seller rather than an overseas importer, the same production line serves you on domestic terms.

StyleDomestic MOQEx-works (INR/pc)Typical online MRP (INR)

Polo, 220 GSM pique300 pcs285 – 365899 – 1,399

Indicative planning figures, not a quotation. GST at 5% below INR 1,000 MRP and 12% above applies on domestic supply. Marketplace commission, returns and marketing typically absorb 25–35% of MRP in Indian D2C — build that into your landed margin before setting a price.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum order quantity for cotton t-shirts?

500 pieces per colour per style for export orders, 300 pieces for domestic Indian supply. Across a single style you can split colours at 500 each, so a 2,000-piece order can carry four colourways. Own-brand stock blanks start at 200 pieces.

How long does production take?

18–25 days for a first order after sample approval, 22–28 days for repeat programmes above 3,000 pieces. Sampling adds 7–10 days before that. Add ocean transit: roughly 18–22 days to Jebel Ali, 22–26 days to Northern Europe, 28–35 days to the US East Coast.

Which GSM should I choose for oversized t-shirts?

220 GSM heavy jersey as a minimum, 240 GSM French terry for a premium streetwear feel. Below 220 GSM the extra width in an oversized block reads as a poorly fitting garment rather than a deliberate cut, and return rates climb.

Can you produce GOTS-certified organic cotton t-shirts?

Yes. Organic programmes run on a certified mill-to-garment chain with a GOTS transaction certificate issued against the shipment. Expect roughly 25–40% above the equivalent conventional FOB and 5–7 additional days for certificate issuance.

Do you offer private label and custom branding?

Yes — woven and printed labels, tagless heat transfer, silicone and rubber patches, custom hangtags, poly bags with your barcode, and retail-ready carton artwork. Pattern making and tech-pack creation are included free above 3,000 pieces.

What are the payment terms?

30% advance against proforma invoice, balance against a copy Bill of Lading. Irrevocable L/C at sight is accepted from established buyers, and terms are negotiable above container volumes.

Which HS code applies to cotton t-shirts?

6109.10 covers t-shirts, singlets and other vests of cotton, knitted or crocheted. The US statistical suffix is commonly 6109.10.0012 for men's or boys' cotton t-shirts; the EU and UK use 6109.10.00. Confirm the exact sub-heading and current duty with your customs broker before booking.

Can I inspect the goods before shipment?

Yes. You can nominate SGS, Intertek, Bureau Veritas or QIMA, or send your own QA team. We also run our own inline inspections at 20% and 60% sewn and a final AQL 2.5 / 4.0 check, and the report reaches you before the goods leave the unit.
