Request an FOB Quote Talk to SalesEvery silhouette below has graded patterns from XS to 3XL and is available in at least three fabric constructions. Frocks and dresses are the least forgiving category in this range — a 2 cm error at the waist that nobody would notice on a kurta becomes a return on a bodycon — so the block library matters more here than anywhere else in the range.
Fitted bodice, flared skirt from the waist. The most universally flattering shape and the safest first order for a new buyer. Works from 40 GSM chiffon to heavy cotton poplin.
Waist seam with a gathered or panelled skirt. The classic "frock style dress" — more structured than a skater, less formal than a gown.
Two or three horizontal tiers. High fabric consumption, high visual impact in a thumbnail, and forgiving on fit — a strong online performer.
Floor-length, in wrap, empire, column or tiered variants. The core of the party-wear range and the highest average selling price in the category.
Close-fitting through bust, waist and hip, in stretch knit or scuba. The least forgiving fit in the range — demands a spandex-stable fabric and accurate grading.
True wrap or faux-wrap with a tie waist. Self-adjusting fit, which keeps returns low; a good bridge between day and occasion wear.
Collar, button placket, optional belt. Reads workwear or resort depending on fabric; poplin and rayon are the two commercial routes.
Straight, knee-length, darted. Office and formal positioning; usually lined and in a heavier crepe.
Party and occasion. Needs internal support — silicone tape, boning or an elasticated back panel — or it will not sit correctly.
Floor length with structured bodice, often in satin, sequin net or georgette over lining. The top of the price band.
Flared ruffle at the waist over a fitted skirt. Adds perceived value at low extra fabric cost.
Bias-cut, minimal seaming, satin or crepe. Very low sewing cost, very high fabric sensitivity — bias cutting eats yardage and demands skilled cutters.
Classified and costed alongside dresses. Crotch-length grading is the detail that separates a good jumpsuit from an unwearable one.
Dress with a matching jacket, shrug or overlay. Two-piece perceived value, single-SKU logistics.
In Indian English, frock means a western-style dress, usually with a defined waist and a flared skirt. In British and American English it is either archaic or reads as children's wear. This is not a trivia point — it is a sourcing and listing decision.
Practical takeaway: if you run both an Indian and an overseas storefront from one inventory, set the product title per locale rather than per SKU. Same garment, two words, two completely different search audiences.
Party wear is where the margin is, and it is also where most costings go wrong — because the price is driven by what is underneath the frock, not the shell fabric everyone looks at.
| Party-wear element | Options | Effect on FOB |
|---|---|---|
| Shell fabric | Georgette, satin, chiffon, sequin net, velvet | Baseline |
| Lining | None, partial (bodice only), full | Full lining adds 12–18% |
| Structure | Boning, cups, silicone tape, elasticated back | +USD 0.60 to 2.40 |
| Embellishment | Sequin, bead, thread embroidery, stone work | Hand work adds 25–140% |
| Closure | Invisible zip, exposed zip, hook-and-eye, corset lace | +USD 0.20 to 1.10 |
| Hem finish | Machine hem, rolled hem, horsehair braid, lettuce edge | +USD 0.15 to 0.90 |
| Length | Midi, ankle, floor, floor with train | Each step up adds 8–15% fabric |
Party wear gets the attention, but everyday frocks carry the reorders. A buyer who tests you on one occasion style may never repeat; a buyer whose midi wrap sells through every month will repeat for years. Our day-wear block covers the shapes that move consistently:
| Style | Fabric route | Why it repeats | Indicative FOB |
|---|---|---|---|
| Midi wrap | Rayon crepe 130 GSM | Self-adjusting fit, lowest return rate in the range | USD 5.40 – 7.80 |
| Shirt dress | Cotton poplin 120 GSM | Workwear and resort crossover, all-season | USD 6.20 – 9.10 |
| A-line frock | Rayon or poly-crepe | Suits every body type; the safest reorder | USD 4.20 – 6.60 |
| Tiered frock | Cotton voile / rayon | Photographs well, forgiving fit | USD 5.80 – 8.40 |
| Knit jersey T-shirt dress | Cotton-lycra 200 GSM | Lowest price point, highest volume | USD 3.90 – 5.60 |
| Co-ord dress + shrug | Rayon / georgette | Two-piece perceived value on one SKU | USD 8.20 – 12.50 |
| Fabric | GSM | Drape | Best silhouettes | Indicative FOB (USD/pc) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rayon crepe | 120–140 | Soft, fluid | Wrap, A-line, tiered, midi | 4.20 – 7.80 |
| Poly-crepe / moss crepe | 140–160 | Structured | Sheath, shirt dress, peplum | 4.60 – 8.20 |
| Georgette (poly) | 60–90 | Sheer, floaty | Maxi, gown, layered party wear | 5.80 – 11.00 |
| Chiffon with lining | 40–60 | Very light | Overlay gowns, tiered maxi | 6.40 – 12.00 |
| Satin (poly / crepe-back) | 90–120 | Liquid, high sheen | Slip dress, gown, bias cuts | 6.90 – 13.50 |
| Cotton poplin | 110–130 | Crisp | Shirt dress, structured frock | 5.20 – 9.10 |
| Cotton voile / mulmul | 70–100 | Soft, breathable | Tiered frock, summer day dress | 5.40 – 9.60 |
| Knit jersey / cotton-lycra | 180–220 | Stretch | Bodycon, T-shirt dress | 3.90 – 6.80 |
| Scuba / ponte | 240–280 | Firm stretch | Bodycon, structured party | 6.20 – 10.40 |
| Sequin net / embellished | Varies | Heavy | Gown, occasion wear | 11.00 – 22.00 |
Three details account for most dress returns, and all three are specification choices you make at the RFQ stage rather than problems you discover after shipment.
| Detail | The failure it causes | What we recommend |
|---|---|---|
| Lining | Sheerness complaints — the single most common dress return reason | Full lining on anything under 90 GSM. Partial (bodice-only) lining is a false economy on light fabrics. |
| Zip quality | Zip failure in month one; the garment becomes unwearable, not just imperfect | Branded nylon invisible zip (YKK or equivalent). The saving on a generic zip is roughly USD 0.12 and it is never worth it. |
| Armhole finish | Gaping at the underarm on fitted styles | Bias-bound armhole with a stay tape on woven; coverstitch on knit. |
| Bodice support | Strapless and off-shoulder styles slipping in wear | Silicone tape at the upper edge plus an elasticated back panel; boning above USD 12 FOB. |
| Hem weight | Maxi hems that flip and will not hang straight | Horsehair braid on gowns; weighted rolled hem on georgette. |
| Colour matching | Shell and lining reading as different shades under store light | Lab dip both together and approve under D65, not daylight. |
Dresses are graded on three points — bust, waist and hip — and the ratio between them differs by market more than any other garment in the category. A block graded for Indian proportions will not fit a US customer at the same nominal size, and the return will come back as a "quality" complaint.
| India | Bust / Waist / Hip (in) | US | UK | EU | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| XS (32) | 32 / 26 / 35 | 0–2 | 4–6 | 32–34 | Low volume outside Asia |
| S (34) | 34 / 28 / 37 | 4 | 8 | 36 | |
| M (36) | 36 / 30 / 39 | 6 | 10 | 38 | Peak size in India |
| L (38) | 38 / 32 / 41 | 8 | 12 | 40 | Peak size UK / UAE |
| XL (40) | 40 / 34 / 43 | 10 | 14 | 42 | Peak size USA |
| 2XL (42) | 42 / 36 / 45 | 12 | 16 | 44 | Strong in USA / Gulf |
| 3XL (44) | 44 / 38 / 47 | 14 | 18 | 46 | Grade hip +2 in above 2XL |
For US and Canadian programmes, shift the ratio toward L–2XL and add 2–3 cm to bodice length above size L. For UK and EU, keep the standard bell but tighten the waist-to-hip drop by roughly 2 cm. Listed units hold graded pattern files per buyer, so a repeat order six months later measures identically.
| Test / check | Method | Accept limit |
|---|---|---|
| Measurement conformity | Against buyer spec, 10% of lot | Within stated tolerance on bust, waist, hip, length |
| Opacity / sheerness | Visual under standardised backlight | Pass — the leading dress return cause |
| Colour fastness to washing | ISO 105-C06 | Grade 4 minimum |
| Colour fastness to rubbing | ISO 105-X12 | Dry 4, wet 3–4 |
| Colour fastness to light | ISO 105-B02 | Grade 4 on solids |
| Seam slippage | ISO 13936-2 | Critical on satin and crepe — buyer standard applied |
| Zip endurance | Cycle test | 500 cycles without failure |
| Embellishment security | Manual pull, 20 points per garment | Zero detachment |
| Restricted substances | REACH Annex XVII | Pass; azo-free declaration per shipment |
| Workmanship | ISO 2859-1, AQL 2.5 / 4.0 | Third-party inspection at buyer's option |
| Order profile | Quantity | Lead time | Typical FOB movement |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trial / first order | 200 pcs / design | 25–32 days | Baseline |
| Repeat programme | 1,000–3,000 pcs | 30–40 days | −8% to −13% |
| Container programme | 8,000+ pcs | 40–50 days | −15% to −21% |
| Embellished / occasion | 100 pcs / design | 40–55 days | Baseline +12% (hand work) |
MOQ is 200 pieces per design; colours can be split at 100 each within that. Embellished occasion wear drops to 100 pieces per design because the hand work, not the fabric, sets the economics. A 40-foot high cube holds roughly 9,000–13,000 dresses depending on fabric weight and whether they ship folded or on hangers.
| Market | HS code | Key requirements | Duty position (verify at booking) |

| UAE / GCC | 6204.43 | Arabic + English labelling, attested Certificate of Origin | 5% GCC common external tariff typical |
| Canada | 6204.43.00 | Bilingual EN/FR labelling, CA dealer identification number | Confirm current MFN rate |

Largest volume, most size-sensitive. Grade toward L–2XL, plan for FNSKU at source, and expect the flammability standard to be checked on anything sheer or brushed. Occasion wear peaks August–November for the holiday season — book fabric by June.
Smaller orders, faster reorders, high sensitivity to fit consistency between production runs. Midi and wrap styles outperform; the party-wear window is tight and late-November delivery is already too late.
Fabric composition and sustainability questions come early. Viscose sourcing and dyehouse disclosure matter more here than price. Returns are high across the market — full lining and accurate size charts pay for themselves.
Premium-skewed and modest-cut led: longer sleeves, higher necklines, floor-length hems. Ramadan and Eid drive two sharp peaks — book fabric 10–12 weeks ahead. Embellished occasion wear outperforms day dresses.
Canada needs bilingual labelling from day one. Australia is counter-seasonal, which makes it useful for levelling factory load — your northern-hemisphere summer range ships into their summer six months later.
Frocks for women is the largest single demand pool in our launch range. The term sits in Google's top search-volume bracket for the Indian market — around 500,000 searches a month — and the wider frock and western-dress cluster draws roughly 7.84 million, more than t-shirts, kurta sets and wigs combined. If you are an Indian retailer, boutique or marketplace seller, the same production line serves you on domestic terms.
| How buyers phrase it | Monthly searches | Competition index | Read |
|---|---|---|---|
| frocks for women | 500,000 | 99 | The head term this page targets. Highest volume in the category and the most contested. |
| western frocks for women / ladies western frock | 500,000 each | 99 | Near-synonyms carrying the same intent — covered by the same page. |
| dress frock for women / frock dress for women | 500,000 / 50,000 | 99 | Buyers hedging between both words. Use both on the page. |
| cute frocks for ladies | 50,000 | 100 | Adjective-led variant, same garment. |
| party wear western dresses | 50,000 | 98 | Occasion sub-intent — see the party-wear section above. |
Be realistic about the timeline. A competition index of 99 on a 500,000-search head term means this page will not rank on "frocks for women" quickly on its own. What wins it is depth plus supporting articles: the long-tail phrases in this category — long western dress party wear, modern frocks for ladies, frock style dress for ladies — carry competition indices of 40–66 against 99 here. Rank those first, link them back to this page, and the authority they build is what eventually moves the head term. The supporting article list is in the launch plan.
| Style | Domestic MOQ | Ex-works (INR/pc) | Typical online MRP (INR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Knit T-shirt dress | 150 pcs | 245 – 320 | 699 – 999 |
| A-line / fit-and-flare frock, rayon | 150 pcs | 340 – 460 | 999 – 1,499 |
| Midi wrap, rayon crepe | 150 pcs | 420 – 580 | 1,199 – 1,899 |
| Long western dress, party wear | 100 pcs | 640 – 950 | 1,899 – 2,999 |
| Embellished gown | 100 pcs | 1,150 – 2,100 | 3,499 – 6,499 |
Indicative planning figures, not a quotation. GST at 5% below INR 1,000 MRP and 12% above. Marketplace commission, returns and marketing typically absorb 25–35% of MRP in Indian D2C, and dresses sit at the top of that band because fit-driven returns are the norm in this category. Build it in before you set a price.
200 pieces per design for export, with colours splittable at 100 each within that. Embellished occasion wear drops to 100 pieces per design because hand work rather than fabric sets the economics. Domestic Indian supply starts at 100–150 pieces.
A-line and fit-and-flare frocks are the safest first order — they suit every body type, which keeps returns low. Tiered frocks photograph best in a marketplace thumbnail. Midi wraps carry the highest reorder rate of anything in the range. Party-wear maxi frocks carry the highest margin per piece.
Commercially, nothing — they are the same garment. "Frock" is Indian English for a western-style dress, usually with a defined waist and flared skirt, and it is the term Indian shoppers search. In the USA and UK the word reads as archaic or as children's wear, so use "dress" there. Set the product title per locale rather than making two SKUs.
Yes — from an entry build at around USD 6–9 FOB (poly-georgette, lined, invisible zip) up to premium hand-beaded corset gowns at USD 19–22 and above. Price is driven mostly by lining, structure and embellishment rather than by the shell fabric. Occasion styles need 40–55 days.
Only if you specify it, and you should on anything under 90 GSM. Sheerness complaints are the single most common dress return reason. Full lining adds roughly 12–18% to FOB — far less than the cost of a return wave.
Yes. Dresses grade on bust, waist and hip, and the ratio between them differs by market. For US and Canadian programmes we shift the ratio toward L–2XL and add 2–3 cm to bodice length above size L. Listed units hold graded pattern files per buyer so repeats measure identically.
25–35 days after sample approval for a standard first order, plus 10–15 days for sampling. Repeat programmes above 1,000 pieces run 30–40 days, container programmes 40–50, and embellished occasion wear 40–55.
Woven dresses of synthetic fibres fall under 6204.43, of artificial fibres under 6204.44, and of cotton under 6204.42. Knitted dresses move to Chapter 6104 entirely. Fibre content and knit-versus- woven both change the duty rate, so confirm the exact sub-heading with your customs broker before booking.
Yes. We develop from a sketch, mood board or competitor sample; CAD repeat development and digital or rotary printing are held exclusively to you. Pattern making, grading and tech packs are included free above 1,000 pieces, and we supply on-model studio photography of your own production.
Send a sketch, a reference garment or a competitor link with a target price. You will get a line-by-line costing — shell, lining, trims, cutting, sewing, embellishment, finishing and packing itemised separately — so you can see exactly which detail to change to hit your number.
