What dropshipping is

Dropshipping: you sell it, the factory ships it

Dropshipping is a retail model where the store never holds stock. When a customer orders, the order goes to the supplier, and the supplier packs and ships it directly to the customer under the store’s brand.

Most dropshipping today runs out of China. India is the better source for a specific set of products: hand block-printed textiles, silver jewellery, leather goods, ayurvedic personal care, incense, brass and wood handicrafts, and ethnic wear. These are categories where Indian makers have depth that Chinese catalogues copy but rarely match.

The hard part has never been finding an Indian maker. It is getting a single parcel out of India legally, labelled correctly for the destination, cleared through customs with duty paid, and invoiced in a currency the store can reconcile. That is what OZIANT and ZJELL Limited do.

Three ways to work

Dropshipping models we run

Since the US ended duty-free entry for small parcels and the EU started charging customs on them, “ship everything one parcel at a time” is no longer the only, or always the cheapest, option. We match the model to the product and the market.

1

Direct-to-consumer dropshipping

Each order ships from the Indian supplier to your customer by express courier, duty-paid, in neutral or your branded packaging. Best for high-value, light items such as jewellery, scarves and leather accessories.

2

Wholesale dropshipping to retailers

Boutiques, gift shops and diaspora stores order small cartons, not containers. The supplier ships the carton straight to the shop. Best for home textiles, incense and handicraft ranges.

3

Hybrid: bulk in, fulfil locally

Fast-moving SKUs go by air or sea freight to a fulfilment warehouse in your market; slow movers stay dropshipped from India. One duty entry instead of hundreds, faster delivery for the bestsellers.

Dropshipping services for online stores and retailers

For Shopify, WooCommerce, Amazon, Etsy and Faire sellers, boutique retailers and diaspora importers in the USA, UK, Europe, the Gulf and Australia.

  • Verified Indian suppliers only. Every maker is checked for IEC, GST and export history before it can take a dropship order.
  • Product data you can upload. Photos, titles, HS codes, weights and dimensions, prepared as a CSV for your store.
  • Samples first. Order one of each SKU to test quality and photograph it yourself before you list it.
  • Blind and white-label shipping. No supplier invoice or price in the parcel. Your insert card, your thank-you note, your brand.
  • Quality check before dispatch on new SKUs and on every wholesale carton.
  • Duty-paid (DDP) delivery where the destination charges duty on small parcels, so your customer never gets a surprise bill at the door.
  • One USD invoice from ZJELL Limited, Hong Kong, covering goods, freight and duties, instead of payments to five factories in India.
  • Tracking on every order, and one point of contact for delays, damage and returns.

For Indian sellers

Dropshipping services for Indian manufacturers and brands

For makers, exporters and D2C brands who want overseas orders without opening a foreign company, warehouse or bank account.

  • Dropship listing on OZIANT, in front of overseas store owners searching for Indian suppliers.
  • Export readiness check by ZJELL: IEC, AD code registration, LUT for zero-rated GST exports, HS classification and destination rules for each product.
  • Product suitability review. We tell you which of your SKUs will travel well by courier and which will not, before you spend on samples.
  • Packaging and labelling to destination rules: country of origin marking, care labels, ingredient lists, and the FDA, CPNP or UKCA requirements that apply.
  • Courier export filing and booking with express partners, with pickup from your unit.
  • Payment through ZJELL Limited, Hong Kong. Overseas buyers pay a Hong Kong company in USD; you are paid as an exporter with a clean paper trail for export realisation.
  • Returns handling under India’s simplified returns and re-import procedures.
  • Market entry support for the USA, UK, EU and UAE through ZJELL’s export consulting team.
How it works

From first enquiry to first dropshipped order

If you are an overseas store

  1. Tell us what you sell. Post a requirement with the products, target market and expected monthly orders.
  2. Get matched suppliers and a landed price. Product cost, packing, express freight and duty per unit, in USD.
  3. Order samples. Check quality, shoot your own photos, confirm packaging.
  4. List and sell. Upload the product CSV to your store.
  5. Send orders. By CSV, email or an agreed daily cut-off. The supplier packs and dispatches; you get tracking.
  6. Pay one invoice. ZJELL Limited bills you in USD from Hong Kong.

If you are an Indian seller

  1. Register as a seller on OZIANT and list your range.
  2. Export check. ZJELL reviews your IEC, GST, LUT and product compliance and tells you what is missing.
  3. Sample and verify. Samples are checked; your unit and documents are verified.
  4. Go live as a dropship supplier with agreed dispatch times and packing standards.
  5. Fulfil orders. Pack to the order, print the label, hand over at pickup.
  6. Get paid against the export, with the shipping documents to support realisation.
Product selection

Best products for dropshipping from India

A good dropshipping product is light, small, hard to break, does not spoil, carries a healthy margin over shipping cost, and faces few import rules at the destination.

India’s strongest dropshipping categories meet all of those tests. The table below rates each category against them. For the full ranking, and why silver jewellery comes first, read our guide to the best products for dropshipping from India.

What not to dropship

Products that are not suitable for dropshipping

Some products fail on weight, breakage, shelf life, safety rules or the law. Dropship them and you will lose money on freight, returns or seized parcels. Ship them as freight instead, or not at all.

Products not suitable for dropshipping: heavy furniture, glass, marble slabs, fresh mangoes and machinery

A simple rule: if a product weighs more than 2 kg packed, can break when dropped, can spoil, can catch fire, needs a lab test before sale, or makes a health claim, it is not a dropshipping product. It may still be a good export product. Ship it as freight through a wholesale RFQ instead.

The overseas buyer gets a USD invoice from an internationally banked Hong Kong company; the Indian seller gets a straightforward export sale.

Rules that changed

Dropshipping rules in 2026: what changed and what it means

Small-parcel trade was rewritten between 2025 and 2026. Any dropshipping offer that still promises duty-free parcels is out of date.

MarketWhat changedWhat we do about it
India (exports)The ₹10 lakh per-consignment limit on courier exports was removed from 01-04-2026 (DGFT Notification 67/2025-26), and CBIC simplified returns and re-import procedures for courier and e-commerce exports.Larger wholesale-dropship cartons can now move by courier instead of formal cargo.
USADuty-free de minimis entry for low-value parcels is suspended for all countries; the suspension was continued by Executive Order in February 2026. Every parcel now owes duty.We quote and ship DDP, so duty is paid before delivery and priced into your landed cost.
European UnionThe €150 customs duty exemption has been replaced by a flat €3 customs charge on low-value B2C consignments from 01-07-2026. VAT has been due on all imports since 2021 (IOSS).We build the €3 charge and VAT into the landed price, and advise on IOSS registration.
United KingdomFor consignments up to £135, the seller charges UK VAT at the point of sale. The government has announced the £135 customs duty relief will be removed by March 2029 at the latest. We flag the VAT registration you need and plan for duty on every parcel.

These rules are current as of 30-10-2026 and change often. Check the latest position with ZJELL before you price a range.

Questions

Dropshipping from India: frequently asked questions

Is dropshipping from India legal?

Yes. Indian sellers can export single orders by courier under the Foreign Trade Policy, provided they hold an IEC, the product is freely exportable, and the shipment is declared correctly. Since 01-04-2026 there is no per-consignment value limit on courier exports.

How long does dropshipping from India take?

Express courier delivery to the USA, UK, EU and UAE typically takes 4 to 8 working days from dispatch, plus the supplier’s handling time. Postal services are cheaper but slower and less predictable.

Who pays import duty on dropshipped orders?

Someone always does now. We recommend DDP (delivered duty paid) shipping, where duty is paid before delivery and included in your landed cost, so the end customer is never asked to pay at the door.

Can I sell under my own brand?

Yes. Blind shipping with your insert cards is standard, and many OZIANT suppliers offer private-label packaging and product branding at agreed minimum quantities.

What does ZJELL Limited do in the dropshipping process?

ZJELL Limited, based in Hong Kong with offices in India, handles the export layer: supplier compliance checks, HS classification, labelling, courier and freight booking, duty-paid delivery and USD invoicing from Hong Kong.

Which products are best for dropshipping from India?

Silver jewellery, scarves and stoles, cushion covers and table linen, small leather goods, incense, small handicrafts and yoga accessories. They are light, durable, non-perishable and carry margins that absorb shipping cost.

Which products should I not dropship?

Furniture, stone, glass and ceramics, perishable food, perfumes and other flammable liquids, battery-powered electronics, children’s toys without test reports, products with medical claims, replicas, and wildlife-derived items.

I am an Indian manufacturer. What do I need to start dropshipping?

An IEC, GST registration, a LUT for zero-rated exports, an AD code with your bank, and products that meet the destination’s labelling rules. ZJELL reviews all of this when you list on OZIANT and tells you what is missing.
